Jakarta. BPJS Kesehatan continues to strengthen governance within the National Health Insurance (JKN) Program to address increasingly complex healthcare service challenges. One of the agency’s key initiatives is reinforcing the role of the Quality and Cost Control Team (TKMKB), which became a central focus at the 2026 National Working Meeting of TKMKB.

President Director of BPJS Kesehatan, Prihati Pujowaskito, said the JKN Program is not only a healthcare financing mechanism, but also an instrument of social justice that ensures all Indonesians have access to proper, high-quality, and sustainable healthcare services.

“As of June 1, 2026, more than 285.4 million people are registered as JKN participants. BPJS Kesehatan also partners with 23,682 primary healthcare facilities and 3,221 hospitals and major clinics across Indonesia. Within such a large and complex healthcare ecosystem, TKMKB plays a highly strategic role in maintaining service quality, ensuring cost efficiency, and safeguarding participants’ interests as the top priority,” Pujo said on Thursday.

Pujo noted that the future challenges of administering national health insurance will become increasingly complex due to rising public expectations for healthcare quality, rapid advances in medical technology, and changing disease patterns. As a result, TKMKB is expected not only to evaluate existing services but also to deliver systemic, data-driven recommendations that support continuous quality improvement.

“Through the theme Safeguarding Quality, Sustaining JKN, we want to ensure that all TKMKB elements move forward with a shared vision to maintain healthcare quality while ensuring the sustainability of the JKN Program. This forum serves as a platform to align perspectives, strengthen coordination, and ensure that every recommendation can be implemented consistently throughout Indonesia,” she said.

Pujo added that TKMKB serves as a bridge between clinical and financing perspectives to ensure service quality, cost efficiency, and the long-term sustainability of JKN. The team also plays a critical role in ensuring healthcare services are delivered rationally, based on medical needs, professional standards, and effective management of social security funds.

Meanwhile, Director of Health Service Guarantee at BPJS Kesehatan, Abdi Kurniawan Purba, said the growing demand for healthcare services is being driven by greater public awareness of health issues, increasing trust in the JKN Program, expanded access to healthcare, advances in medical technology, and demographic and epidemiological shifts.

“In line with President Prabowo Subianto’s Asta Cita vision to improve public health quality, BPJS Kesehatan continues to strengthen promotive and preventive healthcare services as part of its strategy to maintain participants’ health from an early stage. Strengthening the role of primary healthcare facilities is crucial to support early disease detection, reduce the risk of complications, and ensure more effective and efficient healthcare delivery. In this context, TKMKB has a strategic role in ensuring healthcare services are provided according to standards, based on medical needs, and supportive of JKN sustainability,” Abdi said.

Abdi added that support for President Prabowo’s Asta Cita agenda is reflected not only in expanding access to healthcare services, but also in ensuring that every participant receives healthcare that is accessible, fast, and equitable without discrimination.

At the same event, Chairman of the Central TKMKB, Akmal Taher, stressed that increasingly complex healthcare demands require all stakeholders to strengthen coordination and collaboration in implementing JKN’s quality and cost control functions.

“TKMKB plays an essential role in ensuring quality, effective, and efficient healthcare services within the JKN ecosystem. Its role extends beyond cost control, becoming part of a collective effort to ensure healthcare services are delivered with the right indications, proper procedures, optimal benefits, and in accordance with applicable regulations,” Akmal Taher said.

He added that stronger synergy among BPJS Kesehatan, healthcare facilities, professional organizations, academics, and all stakeholders within the JKN ecosystem is essential to ensure every recommendation delivers tangible benefits for JKN participants. Through such collaboration, high-quality, efficient, equitable healthcare services and the long-term sustainability of the JKN Program can continue to benefit all Indonesians.
