BPJS Kesehatan Teams Up with Jakarta Archdiocese to Promote JKN
Jakarta. BPJS Kesehatan is teaming up with the Archdiocese of Jakarta to promote the nationwide health insurance program JKN.
The campaign is part of BPJS Kesehatan’s Syair JKN initiative, which partners with religious leaders.
BPJS Kesehatan and the Archdiocese of Jakarta are currently drafting a memorandum of understanding.
Under this partnership, they will create a weekly sermon book themed around the JKN. It also seeks to enhance education and literacy for bishops, community leaders, and church administrators through training programs. The deal covers JKN registration for religious administrators and workers, while strengthening synergy with Catholic healthcare facilities and foundations.
BPJS Kesehatan membership director Akmal Budi Yulianto said that this reflected the agency’s pentahelix approach of involving different parts of society.
"Through SYAIR JKN, we aim to strengthen public literacy so that people better understand the program's benefits, maintain active membership, and utilize healthcare services in accordance with applicable regulations," said Akmal.
He went on to say how the program aligns with Pope Leo XIV’s views on universal health coverage. It also resonates with President Prabowo Subianto’s goal of improving the quality of public health.
Jakarta Archbishop and Cardinal Ignatius Suharyo said that the program had aligned with religious principles.
"The principle of solidarity is also embodied through the practice of cross-subsidization within the Church community," he said.
As of Aug. 1, JKN has over 284.4 million participants, representing over 98% of Indonesia’s population. BPJS Kesehatan has partnered with 23,762 primary health facilities and 3,228 advanced referral health facilities. Between 2014 and 2025, BPJS Kesehatan has disbursed over Rp 1,270 trillion for healthcare service payments.
