Jakarta. Jakarta has climbed two places to rank 15th globally in the 2026 public transport rankings compiled by Time Out, placing second in Southeast Asia after Singapore.

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung said the improvement reflected better integration among the city’s various public transport modes.

“Why has Jakarta climbed two places? Because integration among the MRT, LRT, Transjakarta, particularly Transjabodetabek, and Mikrotrans services has improved significantly,” Pramono said.

The Time Out survey, published on Oct. 13, involved more than 24,000 residents across cities worldwide. The rankings were based on the percentage of respondents who rated public transport in their cities as good or very good.

Taipei topped the list, with 95% of respondents giving positive ratings, followed by Singapore at 93.5% and Hong Kong at 92.8%. Time Out highlighted Taipei’s clean MRT stations, orderly passenger queues and punctual trains.

Singapore ranked second, supported by its extensive MRT and bus networks, while Hong Kong came third with a transport system covering trains, buses, trams and ferries.

Jakarta ranked 15th globally with a score of 79.2%, ahead of Riyadh at 78.2%, Hamburg at 77% and Amsterdam at 76.9%. Pramono also said Jakarta ranked seventh in Asia.

Pramono said the Jakarta administration would continue connecting transport networks that remain disconnected, particularly through Transjabodetabek services linking the capital with surrounding areas.

“With better integration, hopefully public transport in Jakarta will continue to improve. I will continue connecting transport networks in Jakarta that are not yet linked, particularly through Transjabodetabek, because it significantly helps reduce traffic congestion in Jakarta,” he said.

Pramono said expanding connectivity would remain part of the administration’s efforts to improve public transport services and ease congestion in the capital, particularly for commuters traveling from surrounding areas into Jakarta.

The 15 highest-ranked cities in Time Out’s 2026 public transport survey are:

1. Taipei, Taiwan - 95%
2. Singapore - 93.5%
3. Hong Kong - 92.8%
