Jakarta. Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung inaugurated the An-Nur Floating Mosque at the Ancol Taman Impian complex in North Jakarta on Friday, saying it could become a new landmark for religious tourism in the capital.

“I hope An-Nur Mosque will bring blessings to the people of Jakarta. I believe it will become a new religious tourism landmark, where visitors can enjoy Ancol and also visit and use the mosque,” Pramono said.

Covering 2,241 square meters, the mosque can accommodate up to 900 worshippers. Its main prayer hall holds 600 people, including 460 men and 140 women, while the plaza provides additional space for around 300 worshippers.

Pramono said the mosque was expected to attract more visitors to Ancol while providing a place of worship for local residents and tourists.

“The mosque is open to the public. Anyone can visit,” he said after the inauguration.

He urged Pembangunan Jaya Ancol, the company responsible for managing the mosque, to ensure the facility was properly maintained and remained accessible to the public.

Designed by architect Andra Matin, the An-Nur Floating Mosque carries the theme Bahtera Iman, or “Ark of Faith.” Its pentagonal floor plan represents the five pillars of Islam and the five daily prayers, while its crescent moon and star symbolize light and guidance.

Construction began with a groundbreaking ceremony in November 2019, when Anies Baswedan was Jakarta governor. The project was subsequently delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic, with physical construction resuming on May 1, 2024.

Construction was completed on July 29, 2026, according to the Jakarta administration.

Pramono thanked PT Pembangunan Jaya Ancol, PT Indocater, Andra Matin and others involved in completing the project.

Jakarta City Council Speaker Suhud Alynudin said the mosque’s completion had long been awaited by the public. He expressed hope that it would support religious activities while contributing to the development of tourism in Jakarta.
