How to Register Additional Family Members to JKN
Jakarta. The national health insurance agency BPJS Kesehatan has said that there are something workers have to pay attention to when registering their additional family members to the Jaminan Kesehatan Nasional (JKN) scheme.
According to BPJS spokesperson Rizzky Anugerah, the JKN will automatically deduct a portion of their wage-earning workers or PPU's take-home pay.
The JKN contribution rate for workers is 5%, with 4% borne by the employer and 1% deducted from the PPU participant's income. This percentage contribution applies to workers in government agencies and private companies.
"The maximum monthly income used as the basis for calculating PPU participant contributions is Rp 12 million," Rizzky said on Friday.
The deducted income will remain at Rp 12 million even if the person earns Rp 100 million.
The PPU participant contribution is calculated to cover five people: the worker, their spouse, and three children listed on the worker's family card.
Any subsequent children can be registered as additional family members covered by the PPU participant. The monthly contribution for one additional family member is 1% of the worker's income.
"PPU participants can also register their father, mother, and in-laws as additional family members who are covered by the worker," Rizzky said.
If another family member is already registered as an independent worker with overdue payment, Rizzky added: "Their outstanding contributions must be paid off before being registered as an additional family member."
Rizzky added that the additional family member must also be registered in the same care class as the PPU participant who is responsible for them. Several requirements must be attached to register an additional family member, including copies of the family card, ID card, as well as a letter of authorization for salary deductions submitted by the worker to the employer to deduct contributions from the other family member.
Public PPU participants can register additional family members through their work unit. For private PPU participants, the registration process for additional family members is carried out through the human resource department of the company where they work.
"Business entities and work units are responsible for registering and paying JKN contributions for all workers and their families, including additional family members. If workers feel secure in the assurance of health insurance coverage for their families, they can focus more on their work, thereby increasing company productivity," said Rizzky.
As of end-June, about 21.2 million out of the 284.2 million JKN participants are government workers. Some 46.8 million are working in the private companies.
"BPJS Kesehatan covers not only expensive illnesses, but also healthcare services that require long-term or even lifelong care," Rizzky said.
