Bandung. West Java experienced two earthquakes on Wednesday. The first, with a magnitude of 5.0, struck the Bandung Regency at 9:41 a.m. Jakarta time. Shortly after, a second earthquake measuring 3.5 in magnitude hit the Garut Regency at 12:27 p.m.

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported that the Bandung quake occurred 24 kilometers southeast of Bandung Regency at a depth of 10 kilometers, while the Garut quake was 19 kilometers northwest of Garut Regency, also at a depth of 10 kilometers.

The West Java Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) reported nine people sustained minor injuries from the Bandung quake. The tremors were felt across a broad area, including Bandung Regency, Bandung City, Cimahi City, West Bandung Regency, Garut Regency, and nearly the entire West Java province.

The short but intense tremors caused panic among residents in the Bandung Raya area. Preliminary reports indicate damage to several facilities, including a health center in Cihawuk village, a health center in Cibereum village, a police station in Cibereum village, and a religious affairs office in Cibereum village.

Earlier on Sunday, a 5.3 magnitude earthquake affected Sukabumi, West Java, and was also felt in Bandung.

Following the 5.0 magnitude earthquake in Bandung Regency, 11 train services in the Bandung area were halted. Ayep Hanapi, Public Relations Manager of KAI Bandung, stated that trains were temporarily stopped to ensure safety and assess any potential issues on the tracks.

KCIC, which operates the high-speed Whoosh trains, canceled several trips due to the proximity of the quake’s epicenter to the high-speed rail route. Eva Chairunisa, Corporate Secretary of KCIC, assured that the company would fully refund tickets for affected passengers.
