Jakarta. Jakarta gubernatorial candidate Pramono Anung is keeping his fingers crossed that the election will take place in a single round.

The ex-cabinet secretary is facing against Former West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil and independent candidate Dharma Pongrekun. A single-round election will only take place if a candidate pair manages to secure over 50 percent of the total votes. If not, the General Election Commission (KPU) will host another round with the two candidates that have the most votes. Nov. 27 marked a big day for these three candidates as millions of Jakartans were set to cast their votes.

“Why do we need to secure a single-round election? So Jakartans can return to their normal lives,”  Pramono told reporters in his Jakarta residence on Wednesday.

He also called for everyone to use their voting rights as they would determine Jakarta's fate for the next five years. He also said he hoped for a fair election, and that for everyone to accept the results, whatever it is.

“Choosing a leader is like picking a figure. If something starts bad, things will turn bad in the future. All eyes are on the gubernatorial election. I hope everything goes well, and that also applies to the elections outside Jakarta,” Pramono said.
