Jakarta. The Indonesian government plans to spend approximately Rp 1.3 quadrillion ($74 billion) in the fourth quarter of 2026 to stimulate economic activity toward the end of the year, Finance Minister Suahasil Nazara said Monday.

The spending will cover public services, social protection programs, and food assistance aimed at supporting household consumption and broader economic growth.

"The state budget will spend around Rp 1.3 quadrillion in the fourth quarter of 2026, higher than the Rp 1.2 quadrillion spent in the same period last year. This will stimulate economic activity, including through government public services and social protection," Suahasil told a news conference at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta.

According to Finance Ministry data, government spending has reached Rp 2.66 quadrillion, equivalent to 69.2% of the full-year budget target of Rp 3.84 quadrillion. The planned Q4 spending will make the overall expenditure exceed the full-year target by Rp 120 trillion.

Total government expenditure rose 19% from a year earlier, while central government spending reached Rp 2.06 quadrillion, an increase of 29.6% year-on-year.

The government is also rolling out food assistance during the fourth quarter to strengthen household purchasing power and support consumption, a major driver of Indonesia's economy.

"Food assistance has already begun rolling out for the fourth quarter of 2026. This will encourage consumption and increase the contribution of government expenditure to economic activity," Suahasil said.

Despite the substantial spending planned for the final three months of the year, the finance minister emphasized that the government would continue to pursue efficiency and prioritize essential expenditure.

He said budget allocations would remain selective to ensure that public funds were directed toward programs and services considered necessary.

The planned acceleration in spending comes as the government seeks to sustain economic momentum through the final months of 2026, with public expenditure and household consumption expected to support growth.
