Jakarta. Gubernatorial candidate Pramono Anung has appointed popular comedian Lies Hartono, better known by his stage name Cak Lontong, as his campaign manager.

Pramono, who is running for Jakarta governor, said on Friday that he aims to bring a sense of fun and joy to the election, despite the usual political rivalries.

"We shouldn’t let harsh politics take over the election. Let’s lighten the mood and focus on what really benefits the people,” Pramono said in Jakarta, explaining his unconventional choice for campaign manager.

"We can enjoy politics too. That’s why I had no hesitation in appointing Cak Lontong -- we want to spread positivity and joy throughout the campaign,” he added.

Cak Lontong is known for his witty political satire and clever humor, often poking fun at those in power. In addition to his numerous TV appearances, he is a regular performer at national events.

Pramono has submitted his resignation as Cabinet Secretary to President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo, effective September 22.

“As the president’s close aide, a cabinet secretary cannot just step down on the day the resignation is submitted,” Pramono explained.
