Police Summon VinFast in Indonesia Over Deadly Train Collision
Jakarta. Police in Jakarta have summoned representatives of Vietnamese electric vehicle maker VinFast in Indonesia for questioning on Tuesday as part of an investigation into a deadly train collision that killed 16 people in Bekasi.
The April 27 incident began when a VinFast vehicle operated by taxi company Green SM reportedly stalled on railway tracks in East Bekasi, according to preliminary police findings.
A commuter train then struck the vehicle, before a long-distance train -- identified as the Argo Bromo Anggrek service -- collided with the stationary commuter train on the same track.
Police spokesperson Budi Hermanto said the questioning of VinFast representatives is scheduled for Tuesday, but did not disclose the identity of the executive summoned.
Authorities have launched a criminal investigation into the incident and have questioned more than 30 individuals, including witnesses, officials from state railway operator Kereta Api Indonesia, local government representatives in Bekasi, and officials from the Ministry of Transportation.
