KAI to Hold Prayer Service at East Bekasi Station After Deadly Train Crash
Bekasi. State railway operator Kereta Api Indonesia will hold a tahlilan and joint prayer service on Monday afternoon at East Bekasi Station to honor victims of last week’s deadly train collision.
President Director Bobby Rasyidin and company officials are expected to attend the event, which is intended as a tribute and moment of reflection following the accident.
At the site, a blue-and-white tent has been set up in the station courtyard, complete with seatings. KAI personnel were seen preparing the area ahead of the gathering.
Hundreds of flower arrangements from members of the public have also been placed near the crash site, including around the station entrance and under a dedicated tent, as expressions of condolence.
The ceremony follows a collision on April 27 involving a commuter line train bound for Cikarang and the Argo Bromo Anggrek at Bekasi Timur Station. The incident left 16 people dead and dozens injured.
As of Monday morning, 10 victims remain hospitalized at RSUD Chasbullah Abdulmadjid in Bekasi, West Java. One patient is in critical condition and being treated in the intensive care unit after undergoing surgery for rib fractures, hospital officials said.
The remaining nine patients are under observation and showing signs of improvement after sustaining moderate to severe injuries. Some have undergone surgery and are in recovery, with several expected to be discharged soon pending further medical evaluation.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the National Transportation Safety Committee, which is seeking to determine contributing factors and prevent similar incidents in the future.
