Update: 15 Killed, 88 Injured in Bekasi Train Collision
Bekasi, W. Java. At least 15 people were killed and 88 others injured in a collision between the Argo Bromo Anggrek train and a commuter line at Bekasi Timur Station in West Java on Tuesday.
“Updated as of 1 p.m. today, there are 15 people confirmed dead and 88 others still undergoing treatment,” Chief Infrastructure and Regional Development Minister Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono told reporters at EastBekasi Station.
Of the 88 injured victims, three were previously trapped in the wreckage before being successfully evacuated and are now receiving medical care in hospital.
“We are continuing to do our utmost to ensure medical treatment so that we can save our brothers and sisters who are still being treated,” he added.
Authorities confirmed that all fatalities have been evacuated to the National Police Hospital (RS Polri) in Kramat Jati, East Jakarta, for identification. Meanwhile, injured victims are being treated at several hospitals across Bekasi.
The hospitals handling patients include RSUD Bekasi, RS Bella Bekasi, RS Primaya, RS Mitra Plumbon Cibitung, RS Bakti Kartini, RS Siloam Bekasi Timur, RS Hermina, as well as RS Mitra Keluarga in both Bekasi Timur and Bekasi Barat.
Officials have not yet released further details on the cause of the collision as investigations are ongoing.
