Jakarta. Three pairs of gubernatorial and vice-gubernatorial candidates officially launched their campaigns for the Jakarta gubernatorial election by signing a declaration for a peaceful campaign on Tuesday.

The event, organized by the Jakarta Provincial Election Commission (KPUD), took place in the historic Kota Tua area of West Jakarta and marks the beginning of the campaign period, which runs from September 25 to November 23, 2024.

The declaration was led by KPUD Jakarta Chairman Wahyu Dinata, who oversaw the candidates, political party representatives, campaign teams, and supporters as they pledged to uphold integrity and fairness during the election process. The commitments made in the declaration emphasized the importance of a direct, public, free, secret, honest, and fair election, as well as a safe and orderly campaign free from hoaxes, religious and racial politicization, and money politics.

Following the pledges, each candidate signed an integrity pact, which was also endorsed by representatives from their supporting political parties. Candidates then had the opportunity to address Jakarta residents and their supporters, sharing their visions and missions for the upcoming election.

Gubernatorial candidate Pramono Anung called on the people of Jakarta to set a positive example for democracy in the 2024 simultaneous regional elections. "We will show the whole country that Jakarta is a good example of democracy," Pramono said.

Fellow candidate Ridwan Kamil urged all Jakarta residents participating in the election to be role models for other regions. "This (Jakarta) is the center of Indonesia's civilization; it should be a good example in conducting the elections," he remarked.

Ridwan, alongside his running mate Suswono, expressed hopes for a joyful and peaceful election atmosphere, encouraging high participation and quality ideas in the Jakarta gubernatorial race. He also called for a respectful campaign, advising his supporters to avoid spreading hoaxes or engaging in negative tactics against other candidates.

The three pairs of candidates will campaign under the following numbers: Ridwan Kamil and Suswono as number 1, Dharma Pongrekun and Kun Wardana as number 2, and Pramono Anung and Rano Karno as number 3.
