Jakarta. Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) Chairman Erick Thohir praised the national team for the historic 3-0 win over host Vietnam in the World Cup qualifiers on Tuesday evening.

"The last time we previously won in Vietnam was during the regional tournament called the Tiger Cup in 2004. Our latest win is testament to significant improvement in the quality and fighting spirit of our players," Erick said.

"Praise be to God, we took home three points from Vietnam.”

However, Erick stressed that the fight isn’t over yet because the Garuda team still has two home games against Iraq and the Philippines in Group F and needs another win to advance to the third round.

“We must stay focused on the next two games in June to ensure our participation in the next round,” Erick said.

If Indonesia can defend the runners-up position, they will not only qualify for the third round but also gain automatic entry to the 2027 Asian Cup finals.
