Jakarta. Indonesia has allocated Rp283 billion ($15.86 million) to prepare and send its delegation to the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, targeting four gold medals at the continental event.

Youth and Sports Minister Erick Thohir said on Wednesday Rp222 billion would be allocated for the national training program, while Rp61 billion would cover the cost of sending the delegation to Japan.

The training budget was increased by Rp95 billion from an earlier allocation of Rp127 billion as the government sought to strengthen preparations with the Games less than two months away.

"We received an additional Rp95 billion for the Asian Games," Erick said in Jakarta.

The additional funding has been finalized and is expected to be disbursed after administrative procedures and the budget implementation document are completed. Erick said the funds should be available by next week at the latest.

He said the government would use a key performance indicator (KPI)-based system to ensure the additional funding is targeted at athletes and events with medal potential.

With the additional funding, Indonesia is targeting four gold medals at the Asian Games, which will run from Sept. 19 to Oct. 4.

Badminton, weightlifting and sport climbing are among the sports expected to provide the country's strongest medal prospects.

In weightlifting, Indonesia is relying on Olympic champion Rizki Juniansyah and Asian Games champion Rahmat Erwin Abdullah.

Sport climbing is expected to contribute through Olympic champion and 2026 world champion Veddriq Leonardo and Asian Games champion Desak Made Rita Kusuma Dewi.

Indonesia plans to send 432 athletes across 35 sports, out of 43 sports contested at the Aichi-Nagoya Games.
