Indonesia Starts Monday with Five Medals at Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games
Nagoya. Indonesia began Monday at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games with five medals -- one silver and four bronzes -- placing 12th in the provisional medal standings.
China led the standings with 11 gold medals, followed by host Japan with six and South Korea with four.
Indonesia collected all five of its medals during Sunday's competition, with Sumaya delivering the country's only silver so far in the women's singles teqball event.
Sumaya finished runner-up after a closely contested three-set final against Myanmar's Wai Khin Hnin at Nagoya City Higashi Sports Center.
The Indonesian won the opening set 12-10 before her opponent fought back to take the next two 12-8 and 12-9.
The silver represented a milestone for Sumaya, who only switched from sepak takraw to teqball two years ago. It was also Indonesia's first Asian Games medal in teqball, a sport making its debut at the Aichi-Nagoya Games.
Indonesia's four bronze medals came from wushu, teqball, soft tennis and karate.
Wushu athlete Seraf Naro Siregar opened Indonesia's medal account with bronze in the men's changquan event.
Seraf scored 9.720 points to finish third among 21 competitors. Macau's Kuong Chi Hin won gold with 9.723, while Song Chi Kuan, also of Macau, took silver on a tiebreak after matching Seraf's 9.720.
Yoga Ardika Putra added another bronze for Indonesia in the men's singles teqball competition.
Indonesia's men's soft tennis team also reached the podium, taking bronze. The team comprised Fernando Sanger, Muhammad Reza Falevi, Tio Juliandi Hutauruk, Rizky Zammy Febrian Laluyan, and Bagus Angga Boedy Pradewa.
The country's fourth bronze came from karateka Leica Al Humaira Lubis in the women's +68-kilogram kumite event.
The five-medal haul gave Indonesia an early foothold in the standings as competition entered Monday, with hundreds of medal events still to be contested before the Games conclude on Oct. 4.
