Jakarta. Indonesia will face defending champion China in the Asian Games men's team badminton final at Ichinomiya City Municipal Gymnasium in Aichi, Japan, on Thursday, with the country seeking its first gold medal of the Games.

Indonesia booked its place in the final with a 3-1 victory over Thailand on Wednesday, recovering from defeat in the opening singles match with three consecutive wins.

World No. 1 Jonatan Christie was unable to contribute a point after losing 17-21, 14-21 to Thailand's Kunlavut Vitidsarn.

But Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Shohibul Fikri brought Indonesia level by winning the first men's doubles match before Alwi Farhan put the team ahead with a straight-games victory in the second singles.

Leo Rolly Carnando/Daniel Marthin then sealed Indonesia's place in the final by winning the second doubles match, completing three straight victories without dropping a game.

China advanced with an identical 3-1 semifinal victory over India.

Shi Yuqi gave China the opening point by defeating Lakshya Sen 21-16, 21-18, before India's Satwiksairaj Rankireddy/Chirag Shetty leveled the tie with a 21-11, 22-20 victory over Liang Weikeng/Wang Chang.

Li Shifeng restored China's lead with a 21-19, 21-13 win over Ayush Shetty before He Ji Ting/Liu Yi secured the decisive third point by beating Hariharan Amsakarunan/MR Arjun 21-16, 17-21, 21-9.

Thursday's final will be a rematch of the men's team gold-medal contest at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta, where China defeated Indonesia 3-1.

China is seeking a third consecutive Asian Games men's team badminton title, while Indonesia has already secured at least a silver medal by reaching the final.

The badminton final also gives Indonesia an opportunity to claim its first gold medal of the Aichi-Nagoya Games.

Indonesia currently sits 23rd in the medal standings with one silver and 12 bronze medals.
