Indonesia Wins Five Golds, Finishes 16th at Asian Games
Nagoya, Japan. Indonesia finished 16th in the medal standings at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, collecting five gold, 11 silver, and 23 bronze medals.
The Sept. 19-Oct. 4 Games saw Indonesia send 430 athletes to compete in 35 sports. The haul surpassed the government's initial target of four gold medals, although Indonesia slipped three places from its 13th-place finish at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou.
China topped the standings with 169 gold, 89 silver, and 83 bronze medals, followed by host Japan with 83 gold, 95 silver, and 91 bronze. South Korea finished third with 39 gold, 43 silver, and 68 bronze.
Indonesia was one place behind Taiwan, which won five gold, 17 silver, and 33 bronze medals, and one place ahead of the Philippines, which collected four gold, nine silver, and 16 bronze.
Chef de Mission Todotua Pasaribu praised the athletes, officials, the Youth and Sports Ministry, the Indonesian Olympic Committee (NOC Indonesia) and the public for supporting the delegation's campaign in Japan.
He said the 39-medal haul reflected the collective effort of the Indonesian contingent and exceeded the government's initial target.
“Based on the target given by the Youth and Sports Ministry, which was four gold medals, the Indonesian team at these Asian Games managed to achieve five. This is certainly our best achievement,” Todotua said Monday.
Indonesia's five gold medals came from badminton, weightlifting, sport climbing, and archery.
The men's badminton team won the first gold after beating China 3-2 in the final. Leo Rolly Carnando and Daniel Marthin added another gold in the men's doubles after defeating China's Liang Weikeng and Wang Chang in three games.
Rahmat Erwin Abdullah won the men's 75-kilogram weightlifting title with a combined lift of 366 kilograms, including a 160-kilogram snatch and 206-kilogram clean and jerk.
Sport climber Desak Made Rita Kusuma Dewi claimed gold in the women's speed event after clocking 6.062 seconds, edging China's Li Juan Deng, who finished in 6.064 seconds.
The fifth gold came from archer Nurisa Dian Ashrifah in the women's individual compound event. She defeated the Philippines' Amaya Amparo Cojuangco 139-137.
