Jakarta. Sports Minister Erick Thohir has increased his controlling interest in Oxford United, the club recently announced.

Erick, who is also the chairman of Indonesia's football association PSSI, has acquired all the shares owned by Oxford Investment Holdings Pte. Ltd.

"Following this acquisition, Horst Geicke has stepped down as a Director of Oxford United Football Club Limited," the club announced.

Business magnates Erick and Anindya Bakrie had been holding to a 51 percent stake in the club since 2022 after buying the majority shares from Thai enterpreneur Sumrith "Tiger" Thanakarnjanasuth.

Since Erick-Anindya took over, Oxford leveled up from League One to Championship in the 2023/2024 season. The club also finished the season at 17th place.

Oxford United has also recruited two Indonesian national team players, namely Marselino Ferdinan and the Dutch-born Ole Romeny.
