Lombok. The Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia 2025 at the Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit, Central Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), marked its best-ever edition since debuting in 2021, setting new benchmarks for event management, infrastructure readiness, and global audience engagement.

The international racing spectacle drew a record-breaking 142,000 spectators, according to Youth and Sports Minister Erick Thohir, who lauded the strong collaboration among the central government, industry players, and regional authorities. The event, Erick said, not only succeeded as a sporting competition but also generated an economic impact of Rp 4.8 trillion ($289 million) nationwide.

“This is a remarkable achievement that showcases how MotoGP has become a powerful platform to promote Indonesia globally,” Erick said in Mandalika on Sunday. He added that continuous improvements are needed, particularly in expanding accommodation and tourism facilities around the Mandalika area. “We need more hotels so tourists can stay comfortably. Hopefully, more investors will come in. If we could build Nusa Dua, we can also make Mandalika a success,” he said.

To support this effort, the Investment Ministry has been tasked with attracting new investors to develop the region.

Tourism Boom and Full Occupancy
The race weekend saw a surge of visitors that pushed hotel occupancy in the Mandalika area to 100 percent, with Lombok Island averaging 93 percent and Mataram reaching 90 percent, according to the NTB Tourism Office. The strong turnout highlighted Mandalika’s growing appeal as a motorsport destination and the broader economic benefits to the local tourism sector from hotels and transport to micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

In response to soaring demand, airlines added 44 extra flights to Lombok, including services by Garuda Indonesia, Citilink, AirAsia, Pelita Air, and Wings Air. The additional routes underscored MotoGP’s role as a driver of tourism mobility and regional growth.

NTB Governor Lalu Muhammad Iqbal confirmed that the economic ripple effect extended far beyond Mandalika. “Hotel rooms were fully booked not only in Mandalika but also in Senggigi and Mataram. Prices rose, and MSME participation doubled from 60 to over 120,” he said. “This shows Mandalika has truly become a new magnet for Indonesian tourism.”

Culture and Community at the Heart of the Event
More than just a motorsport event, this year’s MotoGP also served as a cultural showcase, introducing Sasak traditions, arts, and cuisine to the world. Spectators and riders were welcomed with traditional performances and local crafts, blending global excitement with Lombok’s authentic character.

InJourney CEO Maya Watono described the 2025 edition as the most successful yet, emphasizing the seamless collaboration across sectors. “This year marks our best organization so far, full hotel occupancy, extra flights, and vibrant cultural showcases. MotoGP Mandalika is not only a global motorsport event but also a vital platform to promote Indonesia’s tourism and heritage,” she said.

Troy Warokka, Chairman of the Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia 2025, echoed that sentiment, highlighting the circuit’s international recognition. “The Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit once again earned FIM Grade A Homologation, placing it among the world’s top circuits. This is a national pride and a tangible contribution to Lombok’s economy and Indonesia’s global standing,” he said.
