Jakarta. The Indonesian government will introduce an integrated app for citizens to access its services, a senior official said on Monday.

Called INA Digital, the super app is being developed by 400 local digital talents under a project named GovTech Indonesia, according to State-Owned Enterprise Minister Erick Thohir.

"Today we have the confidence to begin our first step in developing a technology-based governance system. We will ensure that the app is user-friendly and easily accessible for all people without unnecessary complications,” Erick said during the project launch ceremony at the State Palace in Jakarta, in the presence of President Joko Widodo.

The app will enhance transparency in the policy-making process and help government policies reach the intended beneficiaries, he said. It will utilize an integrated data center and cloud computing exclusively run by the government.

Erick said the INA Digital app is the government’s first step toward integrating the service system and will be introduced for trial in September.

State Apparatus and Bureaucratic Reform Minister Abdullah Azwar Anas said INA Digital will accommodate public applications for health services, education, social aid, digital ID, police permit for public assembly, and driver’s licenses in a single portal.

Earlier in the day, the president criticized the overlapping government apps and their rapidly growing number for burdening the state budget with little impact on improved public services.

The president noted that government institutions have developed at least 27,000 apps and requested a budget of Rp 6.2 trillion ($386.3 million) to develop new ones for this year alone.
