BPJS Kesehatan Promotes Healthy Living Through Fun Run as It Marks 58th Anniversary
Jakarta. Indonesia’s national health insurer BPJS Kesehatan celebrated its 58th anniversary by organizing a Health Fun Run at the Gelora Bung Karno sports complex on Sunday, inviting members of various running communities to promote healthier lifestyles and strengthen preventive healthcare efforts under the National Health Insurance (JKN) program.
The event reflects BPJS Kesehatan’s commitment to encouraging Indonesians to adopt healthier habits as part of broader efforts to enhance the sustainability of the JKN program through preventive and promotive healthcare measures.
BPJS Kesehatan President Director Prihati Pujowaskito said the success of the JKN program should not be measured solely by its ability to provide healthcare services when people fall ill, but also by its capacity to encourage healthier lifestyles and reduce disease risks through early prevention.
“JKN was built on the spirit of mutual cooperation. Therefore, we not only provide health protection when people need medical services, but also continue strengthening promotive and preventive efforts so that Indonesians can remain healthy and productive,” Prihati said.
As of June 1, 2026, the JKN program had enrolled more than 285 million participants, representing over 98 percent of Indonesia’s population. The program is supported by 23,682 primary healthcare facilities and 3,221 hospitals and major clinics across the country, helping improve access to healthcare services nationwide.
BPJS Kesehatan has intensified preventive measures to address the growing prevalence of non-communicable diseases, particularly among productive-age groups. In 2025, more than 79 million JKN participants took part in health risk screenings, with around 23 million identified as being at risk of hypertension and 17 million at risk of diabetes mellitus.
Data from BPJS Kesehatan also show that more than 400,000 JKN participants under the age of 45 have been diagnosed with diabetes, while more than one million younger participants have been diagnosed with hypertension.
“These figures remind us that chronic diseases are no longer confined to the elderly. They are increasingly affecting younger generations and productive-age populations,” Prihati said.
To encourage healthier lifestyles, BPJS Kesehatan continues to expand programs such as Prolanis Muda, health risk screenings, and public health education initiatives. The Health Fun Run serves as a platform to encourage regular physical activity as part of sustainable healthy living habits.
Prihati said the spirit fostered through the event should continue beyond the anniversary celebration and become part of everyday life.
“The more healthy and productive our population becomes, the stronger the foundation for the sustainability of the JKN program in the future,” she said.
She added that promoting healthy lifestyles also supports President Prabowo Subianto’s Asta Cita agenda to develop high-quality human resources.
“Through the spirit of mutual cooperation and stronger promotive and preventive efforts within the JKN program, BPJS Kesehatan remains optimistic about contributing to the creation of a healthy, productive, and competitive generation toward Golden Indonesia 2045,” Prihati said.
At the same event, Presidential Special Envoy for Youth Development and Creative Workers Raffi Ahmad said the principle of mutual cooperation remains the cornerstone of the JKN program, where healthy participants support those who are ill and those who are financially capable help those who are less fortunate.
“Mutual cooperation is a value that we must continue to preserve. People should also begin adopting healthy lifestyles from an early age through nutritious diets, regular exercise, and healthy daily habits,” Raffi said.
He added that events such as the Health Fun Run demonstrate that maintaining good health should begin today rather than be postponed.
“Health starts from the heart and influences the mind. Once we commit ourselves to staying healthy, our mindset follows. Good health is invaluable, and we must take care of it from an early age,” he said.
