BNI Expands Emergency Response Aid For Sumatra Flood Victims
Jakarta. State-owned bank BNI has expanded its emergency response aid for victims in the flood-hit Sumatra.
BNI, alongside other state-run enterprises, had speed up their disaster management efforts under the coordination of the sovereign fund Danantara. BNI Corporate Secretary Okki Rushartomo said that the bank had been distributing the aid in stages via its network of offices and communities.
"BNI is striving to ensure that assistance reaches communities and employees in need promptly, while also expanding the reach of support to more affected areas," Okki said.
BNI has distributed aid in the form of basic food supplies, including 85 tons of rice, 17 tons of sugar, 17,000 liters of cooking oil, and other logistical support. About 284 affected employees have also received direct assistance from the company, including logistical support and evacuation support.
Distribution was carried out through collaboration between BNI work units, employee communities, and internal social institutions to ensure that aid was distributed equitably and quickly reached the affected communities.
"Solidarity from all elements of BNI is crucial in accelerating recovery for disaster survivors," Okki said.
BNI also conducted intensive aid distribution in West Sumatra from Nov. 26 to Dec. 4. The aid included 55.5 tons of rice, 11.1 tons of sugar, and 11,100 liters of cooking oil, distributed to affected areas such as Koto Tangah, Pauh, Ulakan, Bukittinggi, Padang Pariaman, Pasaman, and Pesisir Selatan districts. Three BNI employees affected in these areas also received direct support from the company.
According to Okki, BNI's support does not stop with the initial distribution phase. Field monitoring continues to identify additional needs and ensure the smooth distribution of follow-up aid.
"This effort demonstrates our commitment to being there for the community and employees who need immediate support," he said.
BNI, along with the state-owned enterprises, also ensures that aid distribution is carried out synergistically through coordination with Danantara Indonesia. This mechanism allows for more targeted aid delivery and prioritized needs.
Aid distribution is projected to continue alongside the recovery process on the ground. BNI affirms its commitment to maintaining ongoing support, both for the community and employees, as part of its role in strengthening social resilience during emergencies.
