BNI Adds Call-Lock Feature to Wondr App to Curb Phone-Based Fraud
Jakarta. Bank Negara Indonesia (BNI) has introduced a new security feature in its wondr by BNI mobile application that prevents access while users are on incoming calls, as part of efforts to combat rising phone-based fraud.
Corporate Secretary Okki Rushartomo said the feature is designed as a preventive measure against increasingly common scam tactics that rely on real-time phone communication.
“This feature is a proactive step to protect customers from various fraud schemes that exploit phone calls,” Okki said in a statement.
Under the new system, the wondr by BNI application automatically locks when a call is received, displaying a notification prompting users to “Finish Your Call First.” During the call, users are unable to access the app or conduct transactions.
Okki said the feature aims to reduce fraud risks in scenarios where perpetrators keep victims on the line while directing them to carry out transactions or disclose sensitive information.
In many cases, scammers attempt to obtain confidential data such as one-time passwords (OTP), PINs, or other personal details that can be used to gain access to customer accounts.
“With this latest feature, wondr helps customers safeguard their personal data. We also urge customers not to share confidential information with anyone, including parties claiming to represent BNI,” Okki said.
BNI said strengthening security systems is a key component of its digital transformation strategy, particularly as digital transaction volumes continue to rise.
Through the innovation, the bank reiterated its commitment to providing digital banking services that are secure, user-friendly, and responsive to evolving cyber threats, while also raising customer awareness of potential risks.
