Jakarta. Major change often begins with a simple step. Guided by that belief, Chandra Asri Pacific (Chandra Asri Group), through its Indonesia Asri Campaign, continues to promote #AksiAsri Operasi Semut, an initiative that encourages people to sort waste at its source as the first step toward a cleaner and more sustainable environment.

Launched in early 2023, #AksiAsri Operasi Semut combines waste-sorting education with public clean-up activities. Through a simple, interactive, and practical approach, the program aims to encourage greater public participation in building a culture of responsible waste management.

As of mid-2026, the initiative has held 12 editions involving 291 volunteers and collected a total of 265 kilograms of waste. During each event, participants are introduced to the importance of separating organic, inorganic, and residual waste before putting the lessons into practice through clean-up activities in public spaces.

The program has also steadily expanded its reach, taking place at strategic public venues including Jakarta's Car Free Day, Kota Tua, and the Gelora Bung Karno sports complex. #AksiAsri Operasi Semut has also been integrated into several national-scale events, including the Jakarta Running Festival, Jakarta Martial Arts Extravaganza (JMAE), and the Indonesia Short Course Emerging Series 2026, allowing the campaign to engage wider audiences and encourage more people to adopt waste-sorting habits.

Beyond waste collection, the Indonesia Asri Campaign ensures that the collected waste is managed responsibly. Low-value plastic waste sorted through #AksiAsri Operasi Semut is processed at IPST ASARI (Integrated Waste Management Industry for Independent Waste Solutions) into pyrolysis oil as part of the company's efforts to support a circular economy. Through this process, plastic waste that might otherwise end up in landfills is converted into an alternative raw material, contributing to more sustainable waste management.

The program's sustainability impact has also received external recognition. #AksiAsri Operasi Semut earned a "Very Good" rating in the Creative Corporate Reputation category at the Indonesia PR of the Year 2023 awards. The recognition was based on quantitative measurements of outtakes, reflecting the program's effectiveness in improving public understanding and encouraging greater participation in environmental conservation efforts.

Entering its 12th edition, #AksiAsri Operasi Semut marked a new milestone by expanding beyond Greater Jakarta through the Jejak Asri On the Move program. In collaboration with the Student Executive Board (BEM) of Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa University (UNTIRTA), the initiative was held in Serang, Banten, to encourage local communities, particularly young people, to play a more active role in fostering responsible waste management practices.

The expansion reflects the Indonesia Asri Campaign's commitment to broadening its positive impact through collaboration with various stakeholders. By engaging communities, university students, event organizers, and the public, #AksiAsri Operasi Semut demonstrates that meaningful change does not always require grand gestures. Instead, consistent collective action can create tangible progress toward a cleaner and more sustainable Indonesia.
