Seized McLarens, Art to Go on Auction at AGO May Fair
Jakarta. The Attorney General’s Office is preparing to auction more than 400 state-seized assets, including luxury cars, jewelry, and high-value artworks, in a public sale aimed at boosting transparency and asset recovery.
The event, branded “BPA Fair 2026,” will take place from May 18 to 22 and is organized by the office’s Asset Recovery Agency (BPA). Authorities say the auction will feature a wide range of items, from luxury handbags and paintings to high-end vehicles such as McLaren and Porsche sports cars.
The total estimated starting value of movable assets exceeds Rp 100 billion ($6 million), with some individual items — including rare artworks and sports cars — valued in the tens of billions of rupiah. Asset valuations have been conducted by the state auction office, known as KPKNL.
Kuntadi, head of the Asset Recovery Agency, said the initiative reflects a broader shift in Indonesia’s law enforcement approach, moving beyond legal certainty and justice toward delivering tangible economic benefits to the public.
“Sales of confiscated assets have not been optimal, largely because the public lacks information about when and how these items are sold,” Kuntadi said on Wednesday. “BPA Fair 2026 is our answer to the question of what happens to seized assets after cases are concluded.”
The agency aims to significantly improve disposal rates, targeting sales of up to 90% of movable confiscated goods collected from various cases, ranging from general crimes to corruption.
Officials also stressed that assets are carefully maintained to preserve their value prior to sale, ensuring they can be auctioned at reasonable prices.
Separately, Anang Supriatna, head of the Attorney General’s Office legal information center, said the event is part of a broader push to strengthen institutional transparency and accountability.
“This is our commitment to being more open. Misperceptions and allegations of misuse often arise due to a lack of public understanding,” he said. “Through BPA Fair, people can engage directly and see the process for themselves.”
