Jakarta. Prominent Indonesian lawyer Hotman Paris Hutapea said on Friday that he has been formally appointed to represent former senior prosecutor Febrie Adriansyah, who is facing corruption charges after police allegedly seized 74 kilograms of gold bullion and millions of dollars in cash during searches conducted earlier this month.

Hotman briefly appeared at the Attorney General's Office in South Jakarta but declined to comment on the case beyond confirming that he had officially joined Febrie's legal team.

The Attorney General's Office, on the same day, issued investigation orders in three corruption cases involving the settlement of debts owed by a subsidiary of Krakatau Steel, coal supplies to state electricity company PLN, and alleged irregularities at state-owned insurer Asabri.

The cases were initially investigated by the National Police's anti-corruption unit before being transferred to prosecutors for further legal proceedings. Police have named Febrie and lawyer Don Ritto as suspects.

Don Ritto, wearing an orange detainee uniform, appeared at the Attorney General's Office later in the day alongside evidence collected by police as part of the formal handover of the case to prosecutors ahead of trial.

Febrie, however, did not appear at the office, and authorities have not confirmed whether he has been taken into custody.

He resigned from his post after police announced the seizure of gold bullion and cash from several locations, including his residence.

The allegations against Febrie have not yet been tested in court, and he remains entitled to the presumption of innocence unless proven guilty in a final and binding verdict.
