Attorney General Proposes Successor to Suspended Graft Prosecutor Febrie Adriansyah
Jakarta. The attorney general has nominated senior prosecutor Kuntadi to succeed Febrie Adriansyah as Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes, with the proposal now awaiting President Prabowo Subianto's approval, a senior government official said on Wednesday.
State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi said the Presidential Office had received the nomination letter from Attorney General Sanitiar Burhanuddin.
Kuntadi, who currently heads the Asset Recovery Agency, is the sole nominee named in the proposal.
Prasetyo said President Prabowo had not yet made a decision on the appointment.
“Once a decision has been made, we will announce it to the media and the public,” Prasetyo said.
He added that the government expects to complete the appointment process soon, with a decision likely before the end of the week.
“The letter was only received yesterday, so we need some time to process it,” he said.
The nomination follows the designation of Febrie as a corruption suspect after police searched a dozen locations and seized 74 kilograms of gold bullion and millions of dollars in cash allegedly linked to several high-profile corruption cases that he had previously overseen.
The Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes heads Indonesia's special crimes division, which is responsible for investigating and prosecuting the country's most significant corruption cases, including those involving senior public officials and large alleged state losses.
