Indonesia's Top Anti-Corruption Prosecutor Resigns as Police Probe Widens
Jakarta. Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes, Febrie Adriansyah, has resigned after police searched his home as part of a sweeping corruption and money laundering investigation involving state-owned companies.
The Attorney General's Office said on Saturday that the Attorney General accepted Febrie's resignation, describing the move as an effort to preserve the integrity, objectivity, and neutrality of ongoing legal proceedings being conducted by the National Police.
"The decision reflects a commitment to safeguarding the integrity of law enforcement while the investigation is underway," the Attorney General's Office spokesman Anang Supriatna said in a video statement. He added that the resignation would not disrupt the operations of the Special Crimes Directorate or its handling of major corruption cases, while urging the public to respect the legal process and the presumption of innocence.
Febrie confirmed a day earlier that a luxury home searched by investigators in Sentul, West Java, belongs to him but declined to comment on cash and gold bars seized during the operation.
Police have searched at least 13 locations since July 8, including Febrie's residence, restaurants, commercial properties, and a money changer in South Jakarta, as well as the Sentul house.
The case has drawn additional attention because one of the raided premises, De'Clan Signature Cafe, formerly operated as Gontran Cherrier—the same venue where Febrie was allegedly placed under surveillance by officers from the police's elite counterterrorism unit, Densus 88, in 2024 while leading several high-profile corruption investigations.
During the search of the cafe, investigators uncovered a two-meter steel safe concealed behind a display case and embedded in a wall. The safe contained cash in rupiah and foreign currencies worth about Rp 60 billion.
Following Wednesday's raids, armed military personnel were seen guarding Febrie's residence in South Jakarta. The Indonesian Military (TNI) later confirmed the deployment, saying it was carried out at the request of the Attorney General's Office. Reports also emerged that dozens of uniformed soldiers visited Jakarta Police headquarters early Thursday, allegedly to accompany a witness being questioned in the case. The TNI denied any attempt to interfere with the investigation.
Investigators said they seized Rp 67 billion ($4.1 million) in cash from properties in Jakarta, along with Rp 476 billion and 74 kilograms of gold from the Sentul residence. Authorities have not publicly established ownership of the seized assets and said they are still verifying their connection to the investigation.
The probe covers alleged corruption and money laundering linked to coal procurement for state-owned electricity company PLN, cases involving state insurer Asabri and the Jiwasraya insurance scandal; as well as alleged irregularities in debt restructuring involving PT CBS and Krakatau Steel's trading subsidiary. Police suspect irregularities in coal procurement may have contributed to recent disruptions in electricity supply.
Jakarta Police said investigators from Indonesia's Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) visited police headquarters on Friday as part of a joint investigation involving the National Police's Anti-Corruption Corps and the Jakarta Police.
Police spokesman Budi Hermanto said the coordination is intended to strengthen the investigation and ensure it proceeds professionally and in accordance with the law. Authorities have yet to announce any suspects, saying investigators are still examining evidence and determining ownership of assets seized during the searches.
