Senior Prosecutor Febrie Adriansyah Refuses to Say if He Will Step Aside During Police Probe
Jakarta. Senior Indonesian prosecutor Febrie Adriansyah on Friday declined to answer repeated questions about whether he would step aside while police investigate corruption allegations linked to his name, insisting instead that the work of his anti-corruption unit continues uninterrupted.
Appearing before reporters for the first time since the investigation became public, Febrie avoided directly addressing questions about his future despite repeated inquiries from journalists. The police probe has been linked to several corruption cases and follows raids that uncovered tens of billions of rupiah in cash and 74 kilograms (163 pounds) of gold bars at multiple locations.
Instead, Febrie said all operations under the Office of the Attorney General's Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes continued as normal.
"We are ensuring that all assignments entrusted to us, including investigations, prosecutions, and field operations to seize evidence, continue without disruption," he said.
As deputy attorney general for special crimes, Febrie oversees the prosecution of major corruption cases and gross human rights violations.
Throughout the news conference, Febrie focused largely on the work of his office rather than the police investigation involving him.
He said his team remained committed to handling cases that serve the national interest, including corruption investigations and support for the government's priority programs, such as efforts to safeguard Indonesia's natural resources.
According to Febrie, ongoing investigations include both publicly known cases and others still under review. They involve alleged irregularities in mining sector governance, transfer pricing practices in commodity exports, and oversight of the government's free nutritious meals program.
"These efforts reflect our institution's commitment to promoting clean and accountable governance while creating a strong deterrent against corruption," he said.
Febrie also stressed that the Attorney General's Office respects law enforcement actions carried out by other agencies, including the police.
He said coordination and mutual respect for each institution's authority are essential to Indonesia's criminal justice system and help ensure legal proceedings are conducted in accordance with the law.
"The Attorney General's Office, particularly the special crimes division, will continue to respect every law enforcement process carried out by other agencies in accordance with applicable criminal procedure," he said.
