Jakarta. Indonesian prosecutors have sealed a warehouse containing more than 21,000 electric motorcycles procured under the government’s flagship Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program as part of an expanding corruption investigation into alleged irregularities in the program’s procurement process.

Investigators from the Attorney General’s Office (AGO) on Wednesday sealed the storage facility in Sentul, West Java, to secure evidence linked to a probe into the management of the MBG program during 2025-2026.

Syarief Sulaeman Nahdi, director of investigations at the AGO’s Special Crimes Unit, said investigators conducted a physical verification of assets at the site before placing official seals on the warehouse.

According to preliminary findings, the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) had fully paid for 21,801 electric motorcycles. However, most of the vehicles remain in storage and have yet to be distributed to intended beneficiaries.

“The sealing was carried out to ensure that evidence remains secure while the investigation is ongoing,” Syarief said.

The Attorney General’s Office has named five suspects in the case, including former BGN chief Dadan Hindayana, former deputy head for organizational development and institutional relations Lodewyk Pusung, former deputy head for nutrition fulfillment operations Sony Sonjaya, businessman Asep Yusuf Soemantri, and Andri Mulyono.

Prosecutors allege the suspects inflated procurement costs and awarded contracts to vendors that failed to meet qualification requirements.

The Rp 1.035 trillion ($56 million) contract for the procurement of 21,801 electric motorcycles was awarded to Yasa Artha Trimanunggal. Investigators suspect the company lacked an adequate network of dealerships and active service centers needed to support a project of national scale.

The probe has since widened beyond the electric motorcycle procurement. Prosecutors are also examining alleged irregularities in the procurement of 32,000 pairs of shoes, 31,994 tablet computers, and 5,400 television sets, which are suspected of involving similar violations.

The Attorney General’s Office said it will continue tracing fund flows and investigating the potential involvement of additional parties as it seeks to recover state losses and complete the legal process.

The MBG program, one of President Prabowo Subianto’s flagship social initiatives, aims to provide free nutritious meals to students and vulnerable groups nationwide. The corruption allegations is the most significant investigations linked to the program since its launch.
