Nganjuk, E. Java. President Prabowo Subianto said on Saturday that he was "deeply saddened" by reports of government officials allegedly abusing their authority and stealing public money, pledging that his administration would not protect anyone involved in corruption, including close allies and members of his own party.

Speaking during the inauguration of the Marsinah Museum—dedicated to the late labor activist—in Nganjuk, East Java, Prabowo said he frequently received reports about misconduct among state officials.

“I shake my head in disbelief. I am saddened every day when I receive reports about officials who commit irregularities,” Prabowo said. “I am saddened that people I appointed, mentored, and entrusted with important positions end up abusing their office and stealing the people’s money.”

The president stressed that no individual would be exempt from investigation if there were indications of wrongdoing. He said he often received reports from the Financial and Development Supervisory Agency (BPKP) regarding examinations of officials with personal or political ties to him.

“There is no exception,” Prabowo said. “Whether they are Prabowo’s people or not, whether they are close to me or not, it does not matter. If there are indications [of corruption], then investigate.”

Prabowo said public office is a mandate that carries responsibility to the state and the people. According to him, government positions are honors that must be upheld with integrity and accountability.

The president also reiterated that he would show no tolerance toward members of his own political party, the Gerindra Party, who become involved in legal cases. He noted that several officials affiliated with the party had already faced legal proceedings and detention over alleged violations of the law.

Prabowo called on all government institutions to strengthen internal reforms and eliminate corruption and abuse of power. He also urged agency leaders to ensure that no officials provide protection for illegal activities or actions harmful to the public.

Since taking office on October 20, 2024, Prabowo’s administration has uncovered a number of major corruption cases involving officials at various levels of government, including former ministers, lawmakers, and regional leaders.

Among the cases are Bengkulu Governor Rohidin Mersyah, who is facing allegations related to extortion and gratuities within the provincial administration; Riau Governor Abdul Wahid, who was caught in an anti-corruption sting operation over alleged bribery; Pati Regent Sudewo, who is under investigation for alleged corruption in his region; and Tulungagung Regent Gatut Sunu Wibowo, who was arrested in April 2026 over allegations of receiving illicit payments from regional government offices.

The anti-corruption crackdown has also reached national legislators from the Gerindra Party. Heri Gunawan, a member of Commission XI of the House of Representatives (DPR RI), was named a suspect by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) on Aug. 7, 2025. He is accused of accepting illegal gratuities and committing money laundering offenses linked to the alleged misuse of corporate social responsibility (CSR) funds from Bank Indonesia and the Financial Services Authority between 2020 and 2023. The case remains under investigation by the KPK.

In South Sumatra, Parwanto, deputy speaker of the Ogan Komering Ulu (OKU) Regional Legislative Council, was named a suspect in October 2025 in connection with a bribery scheme involving infrastructure projects at the district’s Public Works and Housing Agency. On April 28, 2026, the Palembang Anti-Corruption Court found him guilty and sentenced him to four years and 10 months in prison.
