Jakarta. Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi arrived in Indonesia on Saturday for his first state visit to the country, with talks scheduled with President Prabowo Subianto to strengthen strategic ties between the two nations.

Sisi landed at 5:30 p.m. local time and received a ceremonial welcome featuring six Indonesian fighter jets — four Sukhois and two F-16s — as well as a traditional Betawi dance accompanied by gambang kromong music.

He was welcomed by Indonesian Foreign Minister Arrmanatha Nasir and Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Dudung Abdurachman, a retired army general.

Nasir said Prabowo would receive Sisi at the presidential palace at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday.

“This is a reciprocal visit following President Prabowo’s visits to Egypt in 2024 and 2025. The main purpose is to strengthen strategic cooperation between Indonesia and Egypt,” Nasir told reporters on Saturday.

The visit is part of Sisi’s Asian tour, which included stops in South Korea and Malaysia before his arrival in Indonesia.

In South Korea, Sisi met President Lee Jae-myung for bilateral talks and took part in a roundtable discussion with chief executives and representatives of major South Korean companies, according to the Egyptian presidency.

The visit to Indonesia follows several meetings between Prabowo and Sisi since the Indonesian president took office.

Prabowo visited Cairo on Dec. 18-19, 2024, for an official visit and to attend the 11th summit of the Developing Eight (D-8), a group of developing countries. The two leaders met again in Cairo on April 12, 2025, to discuss closer bilateral cooperation.

They also met at the Sharm el-Sheikh Peace Summit in Egypt on Oct. 13, 2025, which brought together world leaders to witness the signing of an agreement aimed at ending the war in Gaza.

Their most recent meeting took place on the sidelines of the 18th BRICS summit in New Delhi on Sept. 12, 2026.

The latest visit offers both governments an opportunity to deepen cooperation across several sectors and discuss regional stability, including efforts to resolve the Palestinian conflict.

Further details of the bilateral agenda and any agreements expected to be announced during Sisi’s visit were not immediately available.
