Jakarta. President Prabowo Subianto is set to inaugurate six new military regional commands (Kodam) as part of celebrations marking the 81st anniversary of the Indonesian Military (TNI) at its headquarters in Cilangkap, East Jakarta, on Monday.

The six new commands bring the total number of Kodams to 27 across Indonesia’s 38 provinces. The government aims to establish a Kodam in every province by 2029, expanding the military’s territorial command structure nationwide.

Prabowo will lead the anniversary ceremony at the TNI headquarters at 9 a.m. local time as the inspector of the ceremony before inaugurating the new commands and appointing their commanders.

Army Chief of Staff Gen. Maruli Simanjuntak said the expansion of military units was part of efforts to strengthen territorial capabilities, improve command and control, and speed up responses to security developments in strategic areas across Indonesia.

The six new Army regional commands are:

  1. Kodam XXV/Mahmud Riayat Syah, covering Riau Islands province, with its headquarters in Tanjungpinang.
  2. Kodam XXVI/Mataram, covering Yogyakarta.
  3. Kodam XXVII/Sobe Sonbai, covering East Nusa Tenggara.
  4. Kodam XXVIII/Moloku Kie Raha, covering North Maluku, with its headquarters in Sofifi.
  5. Kodam XXIX/Mambruk, covering Central Papua, with its headquarters in Nabire.
  6. Kodam XXX/Rinambora, covering West Nusa Tenggara.

The inauguration will also include 30 territorial development infantry brigades, 150 territorial development infantry battalions, and three combat support battalions, according to the TNI.

The Navy will inaugurate one Marine Infantry Brigade and four Marine battalions. The Air Force will establish a second Rapid Action Force Division, one Rapid Action Force brigade, three Rapid Action Force battalions, one training squadron, two air squadrons and two radar units.

Prabowo is also scheduled to award honors to several TNI units and personnel.

The anniversary ceremony is being held in a simpler format at TNI headquarters as personnel remain deployed in several areas for disaster response. The TNI had previously canceled its large-scale anniversary celebration, including major military displays.

Lt. Gen. Lucky Avianto, commander of the TNI Joint Defense Area Command III, is serving as the ceremony commander.

The event is attended by invited guests and selected student representatives, with public access limited. Former presidents Joko Widodo and Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono are among the senior figures attending the ceremony.
