Tandyo Budi Named Indonesian Army Chief in Leadership Swap with Maruli
Jakarta. President Prabowo Subianto appointed Gen. Tandyo Budi Revita as the new Indonesian Army chief of staff on Thursday, replacing Gen. Maruli Simanjuntak, who was named deputy commander of the Indonesian Military (TNI).
The appointments, announced during a ceremony at the State Palace in Jakarta, effectively saw the two senior generals exchange positions, as Tandyo had previously served as TNI deputy commander.
Maruli was also appointed head of the National Border and Remote Areas Management Agency, taking on an additional government role alongside his military responsibilities.
The leadership changes were part of a broader series of senior military and government appointments announced by Prabowo on Thursday.
Tandyo, 57, is a 1991 graduate of the Indonesian Military Academy and has held several senior positions in the Army and Defense Ministry.
Before becoming TNI deputy commander, he served as deputy Army chief of staff, the second-highest position in the Indonesian Army.
He previously commanded the Army's IV/Diponegoro Regional Military Command, which oversees military operations in Central Java and Yogyakarta.
Tandyo has also held several senior positions at the Defense Ministry, including director of national defense awareness, director of defense and security, and head of the ministry's Education and Training Agency.
