Pramono Anung Leaves Cabinet after A Decade to Run for Governor
Jakarta. Pramono Anung officially resigned as the cabinet secretary on Thursday after a tenure of 10 years as he aims to win the Jakarta governorship in the upcoming election.
He is one of only a few cabinet members who has been with President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo in the last two presidential terms.
"I thank the president for putting his trust in me as his cabinet secretary for two terms," Pramono told reporters in Jakarta.
He said the extended tenure indicated that the president was happy with his performance.
Pramono’s resignation came just a month before the president concludes his second term and hands over the presidency to Prabowo Subianto.
As the official campaign season is approaching, Pramono said he needs to focus on his election bid alongside his running mate, Rano Karno. Both are the ticket from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P).
Earlier in the day, President Jokowi issued a decree accepting Pramono’s resignation and appointing State Secretary Pratikno as acting cabinet secretary.
Indonesia will hold simultaneous elections for governors, mayors, and regents across the country on November 27.
