Pindad Ready to Equip Prabowo’s Cabinet with Maung Vehicles
Jakarta. State defense company Pindad is set to produce the Maung vehicle as the official car for ministers in Prabowo Subianto's administration. Pindad's President Director, Abraham Mose, announced that production has already begun, with the first units deployed.
"We must be ready. Pindad has started production, and the cars are already available and in use," Mose said on Monday.
Deputy Minister of Finance Anggito Abimanyu previously stated that President Prabowo aims to eliminate the use of imported vehicles for ministers and echelon 1 officials, with the Maung expected to be operational next week. Designed by Professor Sigit Puji Santosa from ITB, the Maung consists of 70 percent local components.
"Next week, I will start using the Maung vehicle produced by Pindad," Anggito confirmed.
Currently, ministers and deputy ministers are using imported Toyota Alphard and Crown vehicles as their operational cars.
The Maung is a 4x4 tactical vehicle capable of operating in challenging terrain, with a maximum speed of 120 km/h and a range of up to 800 km. It can be modified for various needs, including equipping it with weapon brackets and navigation devices.
The Maung has become a regular feature at state events. In his first week as president, Prabowo led a flag ceremony in the vehicle, greeting participants through the open sunroof.
The mandate to transition to Pindad vehicles for high-ranking officials is expected to benefit the Bandung-based company, known for its production of light weapons, ammunition, and armored personnel carriers.
Prabowo's Red and White cabinet consists of 109 ministers, deputy ministers, and heads of state agencies.
