Jakarta. President Prabowo Subianto inaugurates the LRT Jakarta Phase 1B extension on Wednesday, expanding the light rail network from Kelapa Gading in North Jakarta to Manggarai in South Jakarta.

The 12.2-kilometer extension features 11 stations and is expected to improve connections between public transportation services across North, East and South Jakarta.

The stations are Kelapa Gading, Boulevard Utara, Boulevard Selatan, Pulomas, Equestrian, Velodrome, Rawamangun, Pramuka, Matraman, Proklamasi and Manggarai.

Prabowo inaugurates the route at Manggarai LRT Station by pulling a replica LRT lever and signing a commemorative plaque alongside Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung and Jakarta Propertindo (Jakpro) President Director Iwan Takwin.

"Who would have thought five or six years ago, or even 10 years ago, that we would have a public transportation system like this today? Here in Manggarai, we have the LRT, KRL, Transjakarta, TransJabodetabek and airport trains. This has become a transportation hub,” Prabowo said.

Pramono says the construction of the Kelapa Gading-Manggarai corridor involved an investment of around Rp12.1 trillion ($760 million).

"Jakarta’s connectivity has now reached 93%. Over the past two years, public transportation use has increased by 15% annually,” Pramono said.

However, Pramono acknowledged that traffic congestion remains a problem in several parts of Jakarta. By continuing to strengthen public transportation connectivity, the Jakarta administration hopes to reduce congestion.

The route is designed to carry up to 80,000 passengers per day, according to Pramono. The journey between Kelapa Gading and Manggarai is expected to take around 28 minutes.

Manggarai LRT Station connects to the Manggarai Transjakarta bus stop and Manggarai railway station, which serves KRL Commuter Line trains. The station also provides access to airport rail services, allowing passengers to transfer between multiple public transportation modes.

Passengers will pay a promotional fare of Rp1 for the first eight days following the inauguration as part of the administration’s public outreach for the new route.

After the promotional period, the fare will be set at a flat Rp5,000 per trip.

The Rp5,000 fare is scheduled to remain in effect through October 2026, while the Jakarta administration reviews the fare structure for subsequent periods.
