Jakarta Plans November Job Fair Dedicated to People with Disabilities
Jakarta. The Jakarta administration will organize a dedicated job fair for people with disabilities in November 2026 as part of efforts to expand access to employment and promote equal opportunities in the capital.
Governor Pramono Anung announced the plan on Thursday while opening the Jakarta Career and Independent Entrepreneurship Expo 2026, a separate employment event being held in South Jakarta on Oct. 22–23.
"We must treat everyone equally, including people with disabilities," Pramono said.
The governor highlighted the importance of inclusive recruitment, citing the experience of Zidan, a person with a disability who secured a job as a graphic designer at city-owned public transportation operator TransJakarta through an employment initiative associated with last year's expo.
Jakarta Manpower, Transmigration and Energy Agency head Syaripudin said employers must fulfill their obligations to provide employment opportunities for people with disabilities.
Recruitment will be conducted in stages, taking into account the qualifications required for available positions, he said.
Syaripudin added that the administration continues to require companies to submit monthly employment reports, allowing officials to monitor job vacancies across the capital.
October Expo Offers 12,000 Vacancies
The Jakarta Career and Independent Entrepreneurship Expo 2026, which is distinct from the disability-focused job fair planned for November, is being held at the SMESCO Convention Hall in South Jakarta.
More than 100 companies are participating in the two-day event, offering a combined 12,000 job vacancies.
The expo is the final event in a series of job fairs organized this year by the Jakarta Manpower, Transmigration and Energy Agency across the capital's five administrative cities and one administrative regency.
Syaripudin said the agency had organized 11 job fairs as of October.
The latest expo combines online and in-person recruitment to reach a wider range of job seekers.
By the time the event opened, 8,322 people had checked in through the online platform, while 28,484 job applications had been submitted.
Despite the vacancies offered at the expo, the number of available positions remains limited compared with the capital's overall job-seeking population.
"Jakarta's open unemployment rate has been declining every year. It stood at 6.21%, or 330,000 people, at the end of 2024. In 2026, according to data released in May 2026, it fell to 5.79%, or 323,000 people," Syaripudin said.
Free Transportation and Language Training
The Jakarta administration also plans to introduce free public transportation for eligible job seekers starting Jan. 1, 2027.
The initiative is part of an expansion of the city's free public transportation program, which will cover 21 eligible groups, up from the current 15.
Syaripudin said eligible job seekers would receive special identification cards to access the benefit, with priority given to individuals seeking their first jobs.
The administration will announce further eligibility requirements and implementation details.
Jakarta also plans to continue providing free foreign-language training through its Mobile Training Unit to help residents prepare for employment opportunities overseas.
The training is intended to address language barriers that can prevent Indonesian job seekers from securing positions abroad.
