Jakarta. The Jakarta administration is preparing free public transportation, medical services, and traffic arrangements for the Jakarta Running Festival (JRF) 2026 on Oct. 24-25, which is expected to attract more than 37,000 runners from 48 countries, including more than 1,000 international participants.

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung said the measures were designed to ensure the event runs smoothly and make it easier for participants to reach the race venues.

Participants can use public transportation for free by presenting their race bibs, jerseys, or official participant identification, subject to the organizer’s requirements. Jakarta MRT services are also scheduled to begin operating at 3 a.m. on both race days.

“I hope runners, wherever they are coming from, will not arrive late, as we have prepared these facilities,” Pramono said during a visit to the race pack collection area at Istora Senayan in Central Jakarta on Friday.

The administration is also preparing medical services to address potential emergencies during the races. Pramono said he had coordinated with the Jakarta Health Agency to deploy ambulances and medical personnel along the race routes.

“Jakarta has 31 regional public hospitals, 44 community health centers, and 292 auxiliary community health centers. So, please make use of them,” he said.

Traffic restrictions will also be imposed on several roads along the race routes. The public has been asked to understand the temporary closures and plan their journeys accordingly to minimize disruption.

According to the event’s traffic management schedule, several roads will be temporarily closed on both days. On Saturday, closures are scheduled from 3 a.m. to 8:45 a.m., while on Sunday they will run from 2:30 a.m. to 9:15 a.m.

Affected roads on Saturday include Jl. Jenderal Sudirman, Jl. Gatot Subroto, Jl. Gerbang Pemuda and Jl. Sisingamangaraja.

Sunday’s closures will also affect Jl. Asia Afrika, Jl. MH Thamrin, Jl. Medan Merdeka Barat, Jl. Imam Bonjol, Jl. HR Rasuna Said and the Mampang-Kuningan Underpass.

Traffic management is expected to be particularly challenging because the festival coincides with a concert by Ye. The Jakarta administration is coordinating arrangements to ensure both events proceed in an orderly manner.

Pramono also praised the festival’s increasingly professional organization, citing improvements in participant flow, race pack collection and merchandise sales. He said the event could help strengthen Jakarta’s position as an international sports tourism destination.

“This year, the Jakarta Half Marathon has become a World Athletics Gold Label event. I appreciate this, and hopefully in two, three or four years — let’s say three years, not too long — a major marathon can truly be held in Jakarta through the Jakarta Running Festival,” he said.

With the city’s support, JRF 2026 is expected to boost Jakarta’s profile as a host of international sporting events and stimulate economic activity in tourism, hospitality, food and beverage, and local businesses.
