Jakarta Plans Fare Increase for TransJakarta Airport Route, Governor Says
Jakarta. The Jakarta administration is preparing to raise fares for the TransJakarta service connecting the Blok M business district and Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Governor Pramono Anung said on Monday.
The route currently charges the standard TransJakarta fare of Rp 3,500 ($0.19), the same rate applied across the city's bus network and the wider Jakarta metropolitan area.
Pramono said the existing fare is no longer realistic for an airport-bound service, given that alternative modes of transportation to and from the airport charge significantly higher prices.
“It is impossible for the Blok M–Soekarno-Hatta service to cost Rp 3,500 when other airport transportation operators charge more than Rp 100,000 ($5.50) on average,” Pramono said. “There will be an adjustment, and the figure will be decided soon.”
The governor also highlighted TransJakarta’s growing international recognition, saying the system is now ranked among the world’s top 17 public transportation networks, second in Southeast Asia and eighth in Asia.
TransJakarta launched the Blok M–Soekarno-Hatta Airport route in March with a promotional fare of Rp 3,500 while the administration continued discussions on a permanent tariff structure.
Previously, Deputy Governor Rano Karno said fares for the airport route could be adjusted to between Rp 10,000 and Rp 15,000 once the trial period ends. The service has been operating under a three-month evaluation period since its launch in March.
