Jakarta Plans Car Free Night for Eid Eve
Jakarta. Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov Jakarta) is preparing to roll out a Car Free Night (CFN) during the Eid al Fitr 2026 eve, but the plan hinges on the official date of the holiday pending the government’s isbat session.
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung said the city is holding off on confirming the schedule as authorities await the formal decision on whether Eid will fall on March 19 or 20.
“We are still waiting for the isbat session results, whether Eid falls on the 19th or 20th. Hopefully it aligns with projections so the event can proceed,” Pramono said on Tuesday.
He acknowledged a “slight dilemma” in setting the timing due to the possibility of differing holiday determinations, prompting the administration to delay finalizing the plan.
Deputy Governor Rano Karno said the CFN is now slated to run for two hours, from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m., on Takbiran night, earlier than initially planned.
“It was initially scheduled from 10 p.m. until midnight, but that was too late. So we decided it’s enough from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.,” Rano said.
The event will feature religious sermons, entertainment, and communal activities, with top city officials, including the governor and deputy governor, expected to attend.
The administration said the initiative aims to provide a safe and orderly space for residents to celebrate takbiran night while preserving the solemn atmosphere ahead of Eid al Fitr.
