Jakarta. Jakarta gubernatorial candidate Pramono Anung, alongside his running mate Rano Karno, has proposed an extensive plan to install CCTV cameras in every neighborhood across Jakarta if elected in the 2024 gubernatorial race. The proposal is designed to enhance security and reduce crime, with Anung humorously suggesting it might even decrease infidelity rates.

At an internal event with 500 members of the Community of Women Warriors (KJP) in North Jakarta on Friday, Anung unveiled his ambitious plan. He emphasized that the CCTV initiative aims not only to deter criminal activities but also to tackle issues like bullying by fostering a sense of being watched.

"By installing CCTV in every neighborhood, we expect to see reductions in crime, clashes, and bullying as people will feel monitored," Anung said. He added a lighthearted note that CCTV might also help reduce instances of infidelity, drawing laughter and applause from the audience.

In addition to the CCTV initiative, Anung pledged to double the operational budget for neighborhood administrations (RT/RW) and boost funding for community programs, such as dengue mosquito eradication efforts. He also promised to continue key projects from the previous administration, including upgrades to the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) and superblock developments started under former Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama.

Pramono also proposed providing free education in Jakarta, focusing on financially struggling private schools with strong academic performance. "Offering free education, including for private schools, is feasible," he stated.

He committed to maintaining open communication channels with the public, continuing the approach of his predecessor Ahok, but with added digital tools to improve accessibility and efficiency in addressing public concerns.

On the tourism front, Pramono plans to enhance the Thousand Islands (Kepulauan Seribu) as an international destination by establishing new waterway connections from North Jakarta to the islands. "The Thousand Islands' potential as a tourist hotspot remains largely untapped. We will work to develop and promote it to attract both local and international visitors," he said.

He concluded by emphasizing the importance of addressing the needs and aspirations of North Jakarta residents, particularly in the areas of education, healthcare, and public housing. "I want to focus on delivering concrete solutions rather than just making speeches," he added.
