Indonesia Prepares for New President Inauguration as Foreign Dignitaries Begin Arriving in Jakarta
Jakarta. Laos Vice President Pany Yathotou was among the first foreign dignitaries to arrive for the inauguration of President and Vice President-elect Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka at the DPR/MPR building on Sunday.
Pany arrived at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang, Banten, on Saturday at approximately 11:30 a.m. local time, where she was warmly welcomed by Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno.
During a brief welcoming ceremony, both national anthems were played, and Sandiaga Uno greeted Pany before escorting her to her vehicle for departure from the airport.
German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier also arrived on Saturday, welcomed by Spatial Planning Minister Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY).
Additionally, Russia's First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov was greeted by Women Empowerment Minister Bintang Puspayoga.

In addition, Australia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Richard Marles will attend Prabowo's inauguration ceremony, as announced in a written statement from the Australian Embassy in Jakarta.
Marles’ attendance highlights the strong bilateral relationship between Australia and Indonesia, which is currently celebrating 75 years of diplomatic ties. He expressed Australia’s belief that productive cooperation between the two nations will continue under Prabowo's administration. Prabowo's visit to Australia in August 2024, where he met with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Deputy PM Marles, marked a significant milestone in strengthening this relationship.
Furthermore, US President Joe Biden has appointed a delegation to attend Prabowo Subianto's inauguration as Indonesia's eighth president on Sunday. According to the US Embassy in Jakarta, UN Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield will lead the delegation, which includes US Ambassador to Indonesia Kamala Shirin Lakhdhir, Deputy Secretary of Commerce Don Graves, Commander of the United States Indo-Pacific Command Admiral Samuel Paparo, Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs Daniel J. Kritenbrink, and Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director for East Asia and Oceania Mira Rapp-Hooper.
According to Ahmad Muzani, Chairman of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) and Secretary General of the Gerindra Party, approximately 33 heads of state and deputy heads of state are set to attend the inauguration, including representatives from Brunei Darussalam, the Philippines, South Korea, Cambodia, Malaysia, Serbia, Papua New Guinea, Singapore, Timor Leste, the Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, Laos, China, Vietnam, Qatar, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Thailand, Egypt, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia. The ceremony will also be attended by a former president of the United Arab Emirates.
