Indonesia Eliminated from 2026 ASEAN Championship After 1-1 Draw With Singapore
Jakarta. Indonesia's hopes of reaching the semifinals of the 2026 ASEAN Championship came to an end after a 1-1 draw against Singapore in their final Group A match at Jalan Besar Stadium on Friday.
Needing a victory to advance, the Garuda dominated possession for long stretches but failed to convert their chances, allowing Singapore to secure the point they needed to progress.
Indonesia threatened as early as the second minute when midfielder Thom Haye launched a long pass from deep inside his own half to striker Mitchell Baker. Baker rounded goalkeeper Izwan Mahbud, but his shot was cleared off the line by a Singapore defender.
Baker came close again in the 29th minute, heading narrowly wide from an Ivar Jenner cross, while Singapore remained dangerous on the counterattack.
Haye also tested the Singapore defense with a well-struck free kick before halftime, but his effort sailed just over the crossbar.
Indonesia finally broke the deadlock two minutes into the second half when winger Ragnar Oratmangoen finished Dony Tri Pamungkas' cross to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.
Singapore equalized in the 66th minute through Ilhan Fandi after a costly defensive mix-up between center-back Rizky Ridho and goalkeeper Cahya Supriadi left the ball loose inside the penalty area.
Despite pushing for a winner in the closing stages, Indonesia were unable to find another goal as Singapore held on for the draw.
The result leaves Indonesia third in Group A with six points from four matches, having recorded two wins and two defeats. Singapore advanced with eight points from two wins and two draws, finishing behind group winners Vietnam, who topped the standings with 10 points from three victories and one draw.
Indonesia's elimination marks another disappointment for the national team, which entered the tournament with ambitions of challenging for its first ASEAN Championship title.
