Indonesia Beat Singapore 2-0 to Open FIFA ASEAN Cup Campaign
Jakarta. Indonesia opened its FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026 campaign with a 2-0 victory over Singapore at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium on Friday, with Ragnar Oratmangoen and Ole Romeny scoring in each half.
Oratmangoen put Indonesia ahead in the first half before Romeny converted a second-half penalty to seal the win.
Indonesia controlled the game from the opening minutes, creating several chances while limiting Singapore’s opportunities to build attacks.
Luke Vickery helped create the opening goal, delivering the ball into the box for Oratmangoen to finish in the 15th minute. Indonesia continued to threaten but could not extend its lead before halftime.
Singapore improved after the break and tested Indonesia goalkeeper Maarten Paes with a shot from Song Ui-young in the 57th minute, but Paes made the save.
Indonesia made several changes as coach John Herdman sought to maintain control of the game. Nathan Tjoe-A-On replaced Dean James, while Ivar Jenner and Thom Haye later came on for Calvin Verdonk and Oratmangoen.
Singapore was reduced to 10 men in the 70th minute when Baharudin was sent off for a foul on Mitchell Baker.
Indonesia quickly capitalized on the numerical advantage. A free kick from Haye resulted in a penalty after the ball struck Baharudin’s hand, and Romeny converted to make it 2-0.
Romeny was replaced by Rayhan Hannan after scoring, while Rizky Ridho later came on for Vickery.
Indonesia held on comfortably to secure three points in its opening Group A match. The tournament, which is being staged in Indonesia, features Singapore, Malaysia and Bangladesh in Group A.
