Jakarta. Thailand will enter Monday's historic FIFA ASEAN Cup final against host Indonesia with a well-rested squad after coach Anthony Hudson was able to give several key players a break in their final group match.

Thailand had already secured top spot in Group B and a place in the final after winning their opening two matches, giving Hudson the luxury of resting players when his team suffered a 2-1 defeat to the Philippines in its final group game.

“We're very excited for the game and preparations are good,” Hudson told a news conference in Jakarta on Sunday.

“I think we're in a position where we came into this game fortunate, where we've been able to rest a lot of players.”

“So, we come into this game now with a group of players [who are] fresh and clear and ready for the game.”

Thailand and Indonesia will meet at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta on Monday night to decide the champion of the inaugural FIFA ASEAN Cup. Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m.

All 67,000 tickets allocated for the final have sold out, organizers said Sunday, setting the stage for a packed stadium overwhelmingly backing the host nation.

Hudson expects an entertaining contest between two evenly matched teams and said Thailand's players were looking forward to experiencing the atmosphere inside the stadium.

“You can expect a really exciting and entertaining game: two very good teams, incredible atmosphere at the stadium,” he said. “We've seen how passionate the fans are here for the national team.”

“We're really excited to play in front of this crowd, and we know Indonesia -- the way they play -- is very athletic, very attacking and very direct. I think it's going to be a really exciting game.”

Two English Coaches Meet in Final
Monday's final will also pit two English coaches against each other, with Hudson facing Indonesia coach John Herdman.

Hudson, however, dismissed suggestions of a personal rivalry with his compatriot when asked about the matchup by a local journalist.

“All I care about is the Thai team, the players, and giving the fans something to be proud of tomorrow night,” he said.

The two teams reached the final through sharply contrasting routes.

Thailand secured qualification with a match to spare before losing 2-1 to the Philippines with its place in the final already assured.

Indonesia, by contrast, needed an extraordinary 9-2 victory over Bangladesh in its final Group A match to edge Malaysia for first place.

Malaysia simultaneously demolished Singapore 6-0, leaving the two teams level on seven points and an identical goal difference of plus nine.

Indonesia advanced because it had scored 11 goals across its three group matches, compared with Malaysia's nine.

Two of Indonesia's goals against Bangladesh came deep into stoppage time, ultimately securing the narrow tiebreaker advantage that sent the host into the final.

Romeny Fitness in Doubt
Indonesia's preparations, meanwhile, have been complicated by concerns over striker Ole Romeny's fitness.

Romeny trained separately from his teammates during Indonesia's final training session on Sunday, with Herdman confirming that the striker was undergoing medical assessment.

“There is no guarantee he will be available for the match,” Herdman said.

A final decision on Romeny's availability is expected Monday following an assessment by the team's medical staff.

Romeny did not score during Indonesia's nine-goal demolition of Bangladesh, but played a major creative role by providing four assists.
