Finance Minister Says Funds Ready for Prabowo’s Special Open-Design Vehicle
Jakarta. Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa said on Monday that the government has prepared a budget allocation for a specially designed presidential vehicle requested by President Prabowo Subianto for use during visits to regions across the country.
According to Purbaya, Prabowo has asked state-owned defense manufacturer Pindad to develop a vehicle with a more open design that would allow him to greet the public while remaining seated inside the car.
“Is there a budget available for the president’s special vehicle? Of course there is, if he requests it,” Purbaya told reporters in Jakarta.
He said the government is still waiting for formal instructions regarding the procurement process.
“There has not yet been an official request. I only heard about it when Mr. Prabowo mentioned it yesterday, but there has not been any procurement order so far,” he added.
Purbaya explained that the proposed vehicle would differ from the existing Maung official vehicle, which features a closed-body design.
According to him, Prabowo wants a more open concept using transparent panels or glass so that he remains visible to the public without needing to step out of the vehicle during public engagements.
“He said the Maung is closed, while he wants to remain visible -- seemingly standing, but still seated -- so he does not become too tired,” Purbaya said.
Prabowo has frequently used the Maung MV3 Garuda Limousine, a presidential vehicle produced by Pindad.
The latest version of the vehicle was specially designed based on Prabowo’s directives and includes high-security features such as bullet-resistant protection, a white exterior, and design elements symbolizing Indonesia’s defense industry self-reliance.
