Jakarta. Indonesia’s weather agency BMKG forecast thick cloud cover and light rain across much of the capital on Tuesday, as steady showers since early morning pushed water levels higher at several flood control points, including the Pluit Reservoir in North Jakarta.

BMKG said Jakarta would be dominated by overcast skies from morning through evening, with light rain expected in parts of the city from late morning into the afternoon and, in some areas, at night.

West and Central Jakarta were projected to remain heavily overcast in the morning before facing potential light showers from midday to late afternoon. A similar weather pattern was forecast for South and East Jakarta, where thick clouds were expected to blanket the sky before light rain develops later in the day.

North Jakarta was predicted to see overcast conditions from morning to early afternoon, with a chance of light rain toward the evening. The Thousand Islands regency was expected to remain cloudy throughout the day, with possible light rain at night.

BMKG recorded temperatures ranging from 24 to 30 degrees Celsius, with high humidity levels between 72% and 93%, potentially creating muggy conditions despite the relatively light rainfall.

The agency urged residents to carry umbrellas or raincoats and to remain cautious of slippery roads and possible water pooling in flood-prone areas, particularly in neighborhoods with poor drainage systems.

Meanwhile, rainfall since early Tuesday led to rising water levels at several monitoring stations. The Jakarta Disaster Mitigation Agency reported that the water level at Waduk Pluit reached 206 centimeters as of 7 a.m., up from 190 centimeters an hour earlier — a 16-centimeter increase that placed the reservoir at Alert Level II.

Officials attributed the surge to rainfall across Jakarta and additional runoff from upstream areas in Bogor, West Java.

Other monitored locations remained under control, though authorities continued to track fluctuations. Water levels were recorded at 60 centimeters at Bendung Katulampa in Bogor, 100 centimeters at the Depok post just south of Jakarta, 670 centimeters at East Jakarta's Manggarai Flood Canal, and 40 centimeters at Karet Gate in South Jakarta, among others.

While most sites have not reached higher alert statuses, authorities said ongoing monitoring remains critical amid persistent cloud cover and intermittent rainfall across the capital.
