Pramono Pushes for BTS Concert at Jakarta International Stadium
Jakarta. Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung aims to transform Jakarta International Stadium into a world-class entertainment hub, including efforts to bring global acts such as BTS to the venue.
BTS is expected to perform in December 2026, though the exact date and venue have not been announced. American rock bands Avenged Sevenfold and My Chemical Romance are also planning to hold concerts at JIS this year.
Past performances at JIS include Bruno Mars, Maroon 5, and Korean pop acts Twice and Seventeen.
Speaking at a regional development planning forum at the City Hall on Thursday, Pramono said the city administration is working to position JIS as a major destination for international concerts and sporting events.
“One thing I haven’t achieved yet is bringing BTS to perform there. We’re still deciding whether it will be at JIS or Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium. I really want JIS to take on that challenge,” he said.
Pramono acknowledged that limited access and parking have been persistent issues at JIS, which have hindered its ability to host large-scale events. To address this, the city is accelerating plans to connect the stadium to Jakarta’s commuter rail network.
He added that JIS has now been integrated with the nearby Ancol area, which will serve as a remote parking hub to ease congestion.
“There will soon be a commuter rail line to JIS. We’ve also connected JIS with Ancol, so parking will no longer be concentrated at the stadium. Even 10,000 cars can be accommodated without causing traffic jams,” he said.
With improved infrastructure, Pramono said residents will be able to more comfortably enjoy matches featuring local football club Persija Jakarta, as well as concerts by international artists.
Completed in 2022, Jakarta International Stadium is one of Indonesia’s most modern sports arenas, with a seating capacity of more than 80,000 and a retractable roof designed to host both football matches and large-scale concerts. Located in North Jakarta, the stadium has been positioned as a home ground for Persija Jakarta and a flagship infrastructure project aimed at boosting the city’s global profile.
However, despite its scale and modern facilities, JIS has faced criticism over limited public transport access and traffic congestion during major events.
